Bali...

So I finally visited the famous hot destination Bali. After a couple of hours delays the plane took off from Jakarta and so subsequently landed 2 hours later, around 9pm. So there was not much I could do that night.
I had been warned by my dear friend in Jakarta to be careful about taxis and she advised I stick to the blue bird taxi company, as their prices were the most reasonable. I paid at the airport and was surprised at how expensive it was compared to Jakarta.
Although it was dark, I was still impressed by the sight of Bali. Very different from Jakarta, and of course not as busy, more organised, pretty and with a very Asian charm.
The hotel I stayed which was chosen by my friend and husband who I was meeting in Bali, was ok but do not think it's a hotel I personally would have gone for, but absolutely no complaints. The hotel 'artotel' as it is called, is very artsy, hip and very cool. I tend to go for more traditional. The rooms were big, bed alright and staff great. Very beautiful concept and worth the high ratings it is rated by other travellers.
While I haven't explored the island of Bali and done touristy things which I will be doing soon when I visit again with my hubby, I will go ahead and say my little observation so far, is that it is the posher version of Thailand. Which is not necessarily a good thing. So it doesn't have the same charm. It cleaner, more organised and I didn't see the food carts you find littered in pretty much all the cities of Thailand.
I went to the beach of Sanur, and it was ok. The water was warm, sand was  ok but nothing mind blowing. The water was shallow. Which makes for good swimming. I am aware that there are quite a few beaches, some better than others, and with different colours of sand i.e. White, red and black. So perhaps there quite a few mind blowing beaches I haven't explored.
Bali has very beautiful architecture, beautiful temples, good food, alcohol and a great night life. Quite a big island, so looking forward to exploring more of Bali in future when I travel with my best travel buddy, my hubby. This trip was just a trip to hang out with my darling friend who I haven't seen in a while.
The taxi journey from the hotel to the airport by the same company, was almost half the price cheaper.
Visit Bali, it is beautiful, good food, vibrant island, beautiful architecture, a lot of activities to do, great weather, great history, cheap and nice massages, lovely beaches, volcano and a lovely experience in general. I will be back soon and will write in more detail.
It was lovely flight back to Jakarta, helped that it was a bigger plane on it way to Europe  so made for a more comfortable business class.
Sincerely,
Osa
